INSIGNIFICANCE --- B.F.A Solo Show

 

 

We are excited to announce INSIGNIFICANCE, an oil painting exhibition featuring the work of Shuyang Zhou. This exhibition will run from Thursday, May 16th to Sunday, May 26th. The opening reception is Friday, May 17th from 6 to 9 pm. The event is free and open to the public. The venue is located at City Storage River Street 560 Indian Street, Unit 243, Savannah, GA, 31401.

As a traditional painter, Shuyang strives to create realistic work that is profound and conceptual. In the whole of the creating process, she finds agency in realistic work that is existential.

She creates works in which an actual event has yet to take place has just ended. Moments are left hanging, suggestive of atmosphere and suspense, leaving one to ponder, is this a narrative thread? As the Drama unfolds in her painting, the build-up of tension is frozen in place. Her art becomes the memory of an event that will never take place or an event long past.

Her series, "Helplessness", empathizes with the human struggle by depicting characters in transparent vitrines as if caught up as a subject in some kind of cosmic experiment. She places herself in an infusion bag as a signifier of illness, something that is unavoidable during one's Other works in this series express her empathy for friends and acquaintances caught up in specific struggles in the strangeness of being.
